40 Miners Trapped in Trepça Mine

In the early hours of the morning of April 10, about 40 miners were trapped in the Trepça Mine, which is located in Stantërg, near Mitrovica, Kosovo.

The news was confirmed by the head of the Workers' Union of Trepça, Ibrahim Jonuzi.

"Since 3 o'clock in the morning, the miners have been stuck in Horizon 1, due to an electrical fault in the elevator," Jonuzi said. This horizon is located about 900 meters underground,

So far, according to Jonuzi, 10 miners "have managed to get out of the mine through the second exits", while around 30 others remain trapped.

Jonuzi emphasized that the trapped miners have been contacted continuously and that "they are in good health".

"We have no information that anyone has sought help for health reasons," Jonuzi said.

According to him, the members of the Kosovo Police, the leaders of Trepça, the emergency teams and the mobile teams for extracting the trapped miners also arrived at the scene.

According to him, efforts are now being made to get the miners out of the mine, as he said, through alternative routes.
