Daughter of Albanian Renown Writer Elected UN Vice-President

Besiana Kadare, the daughter of renown Albanian writer Ismail Kadare, will be the UN's Vice-President for the 75th session of General Assembly.

Kadare says it is an extraordinary privilege and responsibility to hold such an important post while explaining that Albania will represent Eastern Europe at the UN, including the Balkans, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, etc.

Meanwhile, Turkish Ambassador Volkan Bozkir was elected President of the UN General Assembly, whom Kadare says she is looking forward to working with at a historic session.

"We are proud to announce that Albania has been elected Vice President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly! It is a special honor to serve as the VP of this historic session and look forward to working with Ambassador Volkan Bozkir, the newly elected President of the General Assembly from Turkey.

It is such a privilege and an extraordinary responsibility to serve my country in this important post, with great visibility in the international arena. Each regional group in the UN is represented by a Vice President in the General Assembly. Albania will represent the Eastern European Group (EEG members include the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, etc.)," Kadare announced.
