4iG and SpaceX Signed the First Agreement in Europe to Introduce Starlink Satellite Communications with Mobile Devices

4iG Group, the parent company of One Albania, and SpaceX have signed important agreements to provide a stable connection in Europe. Starlink Mobile will strengthen the telecommunications services of 4iG Group in Hungary and the Western Balkans. Meanwhile, the agreement for ‘Sovereign Solutions’ will support the development of capacities for secure and independent satellite communications at a national level.

Through this cooperation, the two companies created a unique model in Europe, which combines mobile satellite telephony services with satellite technology for independent communications, ‘Sovereign Solutions’. The agreement is fully in line with 4iG Group’s commitment to telecommunications, space and defense technologies and represents an important step for the Group, driven by innovation.

“The signed agreement comes thanks to 4iG Group’s determination to guarantee service everywhere and for everyone. 4iG Group and SpaceX have developed the first model of its kind, which includes a service based on Starlink satellite-mobile technology, as well as the creation of sovereign solutions for the first time in Europe. We are proud to lead this vision in Europe and to set a new global standard of what is possible” – said Gellért Jászai, Chairman and CEO of 4iG Group.

“The Group’s decision to launch Starlink Mobile, using our V2 generation technology in the near future, will enable stable connectivity for the entire mobile network in Hungary and the Western Balkans. V2 technology will enable high-speed broadband internet, using the 2 GHz spectrum worldwide. We are very happy to build on this collaboration with the 4iG Group, positioning Hungary as one of the first countries in Europe to adopt and offer ‘sovereign solutions’,” said Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX.

Complementing One Hungary’s mobile networks with Starlink mobile

Starlink, the world’s largest provider of satellite constellations for direct communication with mobile devices in low Earth orbit, enables direct connection to LTE-compatible mobile phones, without the need for special satellite equipment. Complementing terrestrial cellular networks, satellite connectivity enables mobile communications even in areas where network coverage is limited or absent.

4iG Group will launch the service in Hungary and Albania. These two countries will join several other markets worldwide, where the service is available on six continents. Thanks to this agreement, One Albania will use satellite infrastructure to provide service even in remote and unserved areas. Technology improves the availability of mobile communications, especially in mountainous and coastal areas. The market launch will depend on the regulatory, technical and commercial conditions in each market.

Starlink Mobile’s stable connectivity will also support 4iG Group customers during emergencies and temporary service disruptions, as well as enable communication for public services and the operation of critical infrastructures.

Starlink mobile v2

Soon, the collaboration will also include Starlink Mobile V2, the next-generation technology, which will operate through SpaceX’s global rights in the 2 GHz spectrum. The service will be launched in Hungary, Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia. By launching the service in several countries, 4iG Group aims to become one of the pioneers in Europe in the implementation of Starlink Mobile services.

‘Sovereign Solutions’: secure satellite communications

Through ‘Sovereign Solutions’, 4iG S&D and SpaceX will develop an integrated service with advanced satellite communication capabilities and secure end-to-end data communication. The service, scheduled to be introduced next year, will offer broadband connectivity and a secure and sovereign network infrastructure.
