A four-month investigation by Tirana Prosecution has identified 52 people, aged between 19 and 52, suspected of selling illegal drugs near primary and secondary schools in the Albanian capital.

The investigation was carried out in cooperation with the Narcotics Investigation Sector of the Tirana Regional Police Directorate.

Authorities said several groups involved in the alleged activity were identified, with individuals operating either separately or in groups to sell different types of narcotics near schools and in other parts of Tirana.

A total of 31 court-ordered detention measures have been carried out, according to prosecutors. A further 14 people identified as allegedly belonging to the groups have been declared wanted.

Investigators said the groups distributed narcotics near primary and secondary schools as well as in various areas of the capital.

In some cases, drugs were allegedly transported and distributed using electric scooters, taxis and delivery services in an attempt to avoid the attention of police patrols, prosecutors said.

During the investigation, seven people were arrested and authorities seized 1.075kg of heroin, 1.265kg of cocaine and 685g of cannabis.

Police also seized a handgun, 90 rounds of ammunition, two electronic scales, 12 vehicles, 35 mobile phones and other items allegedly linked to illegal activity.

The investigation was conducted by the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, in cooperation with the Tirana police narcotics unit.
