66-Year-Old Man Found Dead Inside Burning Car in Southeastern Albania, Police Investigate Suspected Suicide
A 66-year-old man was found dead inside a vehicle that caught fire on Tuesday morning in Neighborhood No. 10 in the southeastern Albanian city of Korçë, according to police.
Authorities said emergency responders and firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving reports of a Mercedes-Benz engulfed in flames at around 8:40 a.m. They discovered the victim, identified by his initials as I. Ç., unresponsive in the front passenger seat.
Preliminary findings suggest the man may have intentionally set the vehicle on fire while inside it. Investigators also recovered a handwritten note in which he reportedly wrote, "I am leaving because I did not treat my family well."
According to initial information, the victim had been living alone following family difficulties. His wife had reportedly moved to Greece with the couple's two children.
Police believe feelings of guilt over strained family relationships may have been a factor in the incident, although authorities stressed that the investigation is ongoing.
In an official statement, Albanian police said the investigative team, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues to examine the circumstances and determine the exact cause of the incident.
