Albania's Birth Rate Falls to a Record Law

The Albania birth rate dipped in 2023 to the lowest ever recorded. The Institute of Statistics' (INSTAT) data says that last year 22.210 babies born nationwide, with an annual decrease to 10% comparing with the previous year, or 2478 babies less.

This rate is the lowest since 1993, while the decrease was registered most in the last two years after Covid-19 pandemic.

According to INSTAT, since 1993, birth rate decreased with 67%. This means that 100 women in childbearing age gave birth to only 121 children.

Comparing to Eurostat, Albania is considered to have the lowest birth rate in Europe.
