Albania Covid Cases Hit Five-Month High

Albania reports more than 130 new cases in a day a twenty-fold increase in less than a month. As the Delta variant of coronavirus continues to ravage areas where people did not get vaccinated and much more Albania hit a five-month high for new cases with reported on Thursday.

Health Ministry informed that 132 citizens turned out positive for the SARS-CoV-2 just days after the authorities confirmed the slight spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant.

Official data revealed that after 3601 tests were performed, 42 cases were found in Tirana, which had the highest number of infected, 9 cases in Shkodra, 13 cases in Vau i Dejës and 10 cases in Elbasan.

Less than ten cases were recorded in these areas respectively: 8 cases in Kamza, 6 cases in Vlora, 5 cases in Kruja, Fier, 4 cases in Saranda, 3 cases in Lushnje, Kuçova, 2 cases in Korça, Kavaja, Pogradec, 1 case in Lezha, Has, Mirditë, Mat, Gjirokastra, Memaliaj, Gramsh, Poliçan, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

Good news were only the facts that there has been fatalities on people previously diagnosed with Sars-Cov2 and that 29 citizens have been cured in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of cured to 130,343 since the beginning of the epidemic.

On the other hand, the total number of the virus-infected countrywide has struck 642 and 26 patients are receiving specialized hospital treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Considering the alarming jump of infections, the Ministry of Health reiterated that August will be open for COVID vaccination for every citizen +18 years old, so citizens should be vaccinated as soon as possible, to protect themselves and their loved ones and to stop the spread of the dangerous virus.

“Anti-Covid vaccines reduce the chance of infection and largely avoid hospitalizations and fatalities. If you suspect you may be affected by COVID19 or have any signs of illness, isolate yourself immediately and contact your GP for testing or call the National Emergency number at 127”, stressed Albania’s top health department.
