Floating PV Plant in Vau i Dejës Ready in 2026

A photovoltaic generating plant that is being built in the reservoir of the Vau i Dejës hydropower plant, with a capacity of 5,143 MWp will enter production in 2026.

This was announced by representatives of the Albanian Electric Energy Corporation (KESH) at the conference proceedings "The External Dimension of EU-supported Connectivity", organized by the Institute for Cooperation and Development in the Prime Minister’s office.

During this conference, the representatives of KESH presented the challenges and difficulties encountered by the floating photovoltaic project in the Vau i Dejës Lake.

"The challenges we have faced include the selection of the right pumping technology for our plant, as well as the measurement of hydrometeorological values of the area. With the support of the WBIF and the close cooperation of the EBRD, we managed to carry out the feasibility study, the selection of the plus technology, and the preparation of the technical specifications. Our project is expected to be completed by construction and put into operation in 2026," said the KESH representative, Jeshar Peposhi.

According to him, this is an important step to ensure sustainable and suitable energy sources for the future.

Furthermore, the National Committee of Large Dams approved at the last meeting the implementation project presented by the KESH for the installation of the photovoltaic system with a power of 8.25 MWp (megawatt-peak - the maximum of the potential), on the Zadeja dam in the Vau i Dejës hydropower plant. KESH has already put into operation a photovoltaic generating plant that KESH at the Qyrsaq dam at Vau i Dejës HPP.
