Albania Takes 2nd Presidency of UN Security Council
The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, gave a statement to the media this Thursday after Albania takes the second Presidency of the Security Council at the UN on September 1.
Xhaçka stated that Albania's second Presidency comes at a difficult moment, when the world is facing a series of serious crises, such as the war in Ukraine and the food crisis.
According to Xhaçka, "The Presidency of the Security Council gives Albania the opportunity to determine which crisis situations will receive the special attention of the Security Council".
Also, the minister declared that a high-level open debate will be organized in the SC, where the focus will be on the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
"This Albanian presidency of the Security Council comes at a difficult moment, where the world is facing a series of serious crises and conflicts, and food insecurity crises as a result of the war in Ukraine
It is a moment that needs the commitment of the international community and especially the Security Council, to ensure peace and security in the world. Holding the presidency of the SC gives our country the opportunity to determine to a large extent what the SC's agenda will be during the months of September, what will be the issues that will receive the attention of the council and will benefit from the engagement of the Council of security.
There are two very important activities of this presidency. After all, it is an initiative to guarantee the distribution of humanitarian aid anywhere in the world, in times of crises or natural disasters. This enables large businesses and corporations to offer their contribution to complement existing humanitarian aid mechanisms. This improves and accelerates the way these aids and contributions are distributed, to go where it is needed.
Another landmark activity of our presidency is dedicated to the illegal Russian aggression against Ukraine. This is one of the issues that marked our mandate. We will organize a high-level open debate in the SC. The debate will focus on the consequences of the illegal Russian aggression against Ukraine", declared Xhaca.
