Albania to Open Fourth Covid-19 Hospital as New Infections Keep Surging
Albania is planning to open soon the fourth Covid-19 hospital as new infections keep surging every day. Health Minister, Ogerta Manastirliu declared on Thursday that the fourth hospital is ready but it will not open without three other hospitals will be full.
According to her, 15-20% of the capacities of the three other hospitals are still free.
"Actually we have 29837 confirmed case of Covid-19 nationwide, 1042 cases per 100.000 people. Comparing with the other countries in the region we are slightly better. The increase in confirmed cases has caused an average increase in weekly cases, to 518 in the 46th week of the pandemic.
52% of these cases are female and 48% are male. There is a slight increase in active cases, 526 active cases per 100.000 inhabitants. Unfortunately 646 people have died due to the novel virus causing a number of 22.7% fatalities per 100.000 population. Mortality also in Albania is lower than in the region. Actually there are 15-20% free beds in three structures and the fourth hospital is on standby," said Minister.
