Amb. Kim’s Message on 30th Snniversary of Albania-US Relations’ Re-Establishment
"In the name of America" exhibition was held this Tuesday ??in Tirana, which was also attended by Ambassador Yuri Kim, where she mentioned the words of the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, who had said that Albania is a nation and should enjoy all rights as such.
In a statement to the media, Ambasador Kim said that today commemorates the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the US and Albania after the fall of the communist regime, emphasizing that even at the moment when the world was collapsing America never wavered in its stance on Albania.
Among other things, the US diplomat underlined that it is a living story and is in memory of all the men and women who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation.
"The history of Albanians and Americans is unique and people make a difference.
In addition to the 75th anniversary of the departure of the American mission, today marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, at the end of the First World War when the world was collapsing.
Wilson said that Albania is a nation and should enjoy all rights as such. The US has never wavered from that statement, you are our partners despite any kind of development.
In the communist period, the country was isolated but America remained steadfast with its attitude towards Albania. They attacked people working for American organizations and persecuted them by sending them to concentration camps. Educate yourself about them because I have seen it and it is incredible.
It is a story of dignity and resistance. It's a living story, and I believe many of you have family members who may have been persecuted during that time.
In memory of brave women and men, we must also remember the horrors they experienced just to achieve freedom.
What we have today may not be perfect but it has come through blood and life.
It is precious and we should all protect it. I am very happy to be here today to see the exhibition," said the US Ambassador to Albania.
