Anti-Corruption Fight Must Be National Priority; Democrat

Member of Parliament for the Democratic Party (DP), Jorida Tabaku has underlined Thursday that the fight against corruption should become a national priority of Albania.

In a reaction on social networks, Tabaku referred to the case discovered in the apartment of Prime Minister Rama's advisor, Alda Klosi, where the sanitary worker who worked for her together with her son are accused of having robbed a large amount, nearly 500.000 EUR.

"Fight against corruption is political will.

We discussed two proposals that I have proposed as a DP deputy and after working in the incinerators investigative commission: the draft law "On Concessions and PPPs" as well as the draft law "On Strategic Investments".

The four principles on which the amendments to the concessions that I proposed together with the specialists were based are based on:

- Increasing transparency by publishing complete and permanent documents in the Concessions/PPPs Handling Agency.

- Increasing personal responsibility; anyone who holds a public office must not only bear personal responsibility for actions but must also answer for actions and inactions. Therefore, the amendments are intended to further strengthen personal responsibility, with the principle of strengthening the individual's refusal to commit a corrupt act.

- Strengthening the control of Financial Reports. Any company seeking to obtain a Public Concession must publish and prove that it has at least 50% of the project's revenue and that the source of that revenue is legal.

- Since 2019, Albania has been included in the gray list of countries that are investigated and suspected of Money Laundering. Our amendments oblige every commercial entity to submit a detailed income report and their justification whenever the entity will be provided with a construction permit or certificate of use. Likewise, we requested that the obligation of public authorities to verify the submission of the detailed financial report as well as the legality be sanctioned. Source of income.

- Prohibited or disqualified from competing are companies that have offshore owners, that violate works in concessions and PPPs.

The fight against corruption must become a national priority! Today, we cannot wait for the opportunity to extract the payments from under the mattress of a former official; or become a statistic. We must lead and show through acts our goals and our intentions as the opposition to prove where we differ from the majority and above all the government.

That's why I invited my colleagues, especially those in the majority, to vote in favor of the bills", stated the Democrat.
