The Basic Court in Pristina has issued an arrest warrant against the former EULEX prosecutor in Kosovo, Maria Bamieh. 

Charges have been brought against her for the criminal offense of "Misuse of official position or authority". 

"It is ordered to issue an arrest warrant against the defendant Maria Bamieh, former special prosecutor in the mission of the European Union, EULEX in Kosovo, who is on the run (without other personal records and without her address of residence or residence in the Republic of Kosovo ) in terms of the criminal offense Misuse of official position and authority", states the Court's decision issued on September 5. 

According to sources, the issuance of the arrest warrant by the preliminary procedure judge was done in coordination with the European Union mission in Kosovo, EULEX. 

The court ordered her detention and arrest as Maria Bamieh has not responded to the call of the State Prosecutor's Office to be questioned. She had stated that she would cooperate with the authorities for the accusations made against her, but this did not happen. 

"According to this arrest warrant, the defendant Mariah Bamieh is to be apprehended and arrested/detained at any time, when this is possible, and will be immediately sent to the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Pristina, where she will be questioned by prosecutor Fitore Sadikaj", the decision states. 

The ex-prosecutor Bamieh has described as illegal the investigations of the Prosecutor's Office against her due to the immunity she said she enjoys from the United Nations Organization. 

"Regarding the last action of a local prosecutor in Kosovo, I enjoy immunity from the United Nations, which I have not removed. Therefore, any criminal investigation against me related to matters related to my previous employment without waiving my immunity is illegal,” she wrote in a Facebook post. 

The investigations against the former prosecutor started after the denunciation by the former secretary of the Ministry of Health, Ilir Tolaj, who was investigated by a EULEX task force, which was led by Bamieh. 

Tolaj, on behalf of himself and his family, accused the former prosecutor of revealing details of their private life to the media. 

At a press conference in Pristina on July 25 of this year, Maria Bamieh revealed details of her agreement with the United Kingdom government regarding a civil dispute between the parties. 

She received £423,000 from the UK government over claims the British government failed to provide support after she tried to expose possible collusion between EU officials and suspected criminals in Kosovo. 

Maria Bamieh was fired from her job at the UK Foreign Office after she raised suspicions of corruption at the EU's largest external mission in Kosovo (EULEX).
