Arrested for Abuse of Duty, Six Police Officers to Remain in Prison

The Court of Durrës has given the security measure "arrest in prison" for the six inspectors of the Police of the Port of Durrës, who in cooperation between them allowed the passage of persons who were prohibited from traveling to the Schengen area. They have been kept under investigation for some time, while the investigations show that they received money ranging from 50-100 euros in exchange for a stamp.

The accused are inspectors Kalosh Sula, Luan Çelaj, Marsel Farruku, Naim Kadrimi, Isametin Vranezi, and Eduart Matmuja, aged between 30 and 60 years.

While in some cases it has been discovered that they have also allowed the passage of persons declared wanted by the justice bodies or of vehicles that were not subject to the customs regime.

All of these, according to the accusation, have been substantiated with evidence, requiring the measure of personal security, arrest and imprisonment.

The defense attorneys asked for an easier measure, such as mandatory appearance, since the arrested persons do not pose a danger to the community.

After hearing the parties, the court decided to uphold the request of the Prosecution, giving indefinite prison terms to the 6 border police officers.

Accusations of "corruption and abuse of power" weigh heavily on them, while parallel to them, proceedings were launched in a state of freedom for 20 other citizens.

Charges have been brought against the latter for the criminal offenses of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions" and "Abuse of duty".
