Baker's Message 31 Years after First Visit to Albania

United States Embassy in Tirana has shared Wednesday the message of the former US Secretary of State, James Baker, who 31 years ago was the first high-level US official to visit Albania in almost half a century and witnessed the celebration of freedom in country under the new democracy. 

In his video message, former Secretary Baker recalled Albania's difficult years in the fall of communism, as he stated that "I personally witnessed how Albania celebrated freedom on June 22, 1991".

“'You are with us and we are with you!' Thirty-one years ago, on June 22, 1991, U.S. Secretary of State James Baker became the first high-level American official to visit Albania in nearly a half century and witnessed the country’s celebration of freedom under its new democracy. Standing in front of hundreds of thousands of Albanians at Skanderbeg Square in Tirana, he assured them, “Freedom works.” On the 31st anniversary of that day and on the 100th anniversary of U.S.-Albanian relations, former Secretary of State James Baker sent the following special message to all Albanians", proclaimed the Embassy.
