Basha Promises Unification of VAT for Tourism Sector

The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha in a conversation today with representatives of tourist agencies in Durrës, stated that with coming to power, his government will unify the value-added tax to 6% for all tour operators.

On the other hand, entrepreneurs have expressed the concerns they face every day, while the opposition leader said that the DP after April 25 will be ready to institutionalize cooperation with European training institutions in the field of tourism with over 100 years of tradition.

"In short, I believe you have seen from our plan that we will unify the value-added tax, 6% VAT for all tour operators. In our program, 6% VAT is unified for all tour operators, for all tour operators for the whole chain, for all these. And one of the measures that affect the whole economy but also you, in particular, is the inspectorates.

The inspectorates will have a 12-month moratorium until a reform according to the European model. This means 12 months will not exercise absolutely any of the behaviors, terrorist presence with business and after that with the European model that we will reform these inspectorates, what you should expect is a result similar to what happens in Europe. 7 to 10% of the business is controlled according to the risk analysis, but the inspectors do not come from morning to night destroying the nerves, wasting time, the energy of the entrepreneur in every field, especially the tourism sector which then suffers from the problem of third, which you put forward from the fact that the season here remains terribly short for the potential the country has.

And in view of the extension of the season, some steps need to be taken. One of the main steps to be taken is without question the qualification of the workforce. And here I must repeat something that I believe shows the depth of our commitment to this sector: Today, still in opposition, for these weeks that separate us from April 25, I want to declare with full responsibility that we have established contacts and are ready to institutionalize cooperation with European training institutions in the field of tourism with over 100 years of tradition.
