UK PM Boris Johnson Officially Resigns

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has officially resigned this Thursday noon. Such an act was announced in the morning, after the resignation of a high number of ministers and senior officials of the governing cabinet.

Johnson said he is proud of what he has done, but added that no one is irreplaceable in politics.

"It is clear now the will of the Conservative parliamentary party to have a new leader of that party and therefore a new prime minister.

I have agreed with Sir Graham Brady, the leader of our MPs, that the process of electing a new leader must begin now. And the schedule will be announced next week.

So I want to say to the millions of people who voted for us in 2019, many of them voted Conservative for the first time: Thank you for that outstanding mandate. Largest Conservative majority since 1987.

Being prime minister is a "school" in itself. I have travelled to every part of Great Britain and found so many people who possess such boundless British originality and are so willing to tackle old problems in new ways.

Even if things may seem dark at times right now, our future together is golden,” Johnson said. He received a standing ovation after the briefing.
