Budget Expenditures Must Be Reviewed to Manage Virus Crisis; DP

Albanian government must reconsider budget expenditures and refrain from expenses so that it can manage the coronavirus outbreak situation, highlighted Tuesday the Former MP of Democratic Party (DP) Jorida Tabaku.

She underlined that the administration must make way to supporting only essential activities and helping the most vulnerable, also must avoid the constant and baseless alterations of fiscal policies.

Meanwhile, Tabaku referred to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), saying that Albania has suffered recession since the last 4 months of 2019 and reached to -10.4% in the second quarter of 2020 while all economic indicators are deteriorating.

“Today, the Albanian economy is suffering as a result of 8 years of tax increases, abuse and lack of vision.

The latest IMF report raised the same concerns that the opposition has long raised:

- The government must pave the way for supporting only essential activities in the budget and help the most vulnerable, including not spending money on non-priority expenditures, improving expenditure efficiency. This is urgent, budget expenditures need a review and refrain from expenditures to manage the situation.

- Continuous and baseless changes of fiscal policies must be avoided, because they have weakened the fiscal system.

- Authorities must prepare in the case of contingency measures in case of aggravation of the situation from the pandemic”, stated Tabaku among other things.
