CEC Fines Tirana's Mayor, Erion Veliaj

Tirana's Mayor, Erion Veliaj was fined by the Central Elections Commission (CEC) on Tuesday for breaching electoral law. Albaniandailynews.com has learned that Veliaj was fined in total with ALL 75.000 for violation of law and continuing electoral meetings. The first fine was ALL 3500 for not reporting to this commission his activities - as law predicts, and the second one ALL 4000 for promotion of banned activities.

The decision was taken during Tuesday's meeting as earlier CEC reminded once again that it is monitoring the respect of the rules of the Electoral Code by political forces.

The Academy of Political Studies supported by the CoE, the EU and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, have prepared a detailed material on the prohibition of the use of state resources for electoral purposes as of December 25, 2020, the effects of the new provisions of the Electoral Code have entered into force

These changes predicts that prohibition of public activities and the use of state resources in a period of 4 months until the elections.
