Family members, friends and residents gathered on Saturday to bid a final farewell to Kosta Plaku, 58, and his wife, Belere Plaku, 51, who were killed following a fatal shooting in the village of Vidhisht, Roskovec.

The funeral was marked by grief as members of the local community came together to honor the couple, who were attacked at their home a day earlier.

According to authorities, Kosta Plaku died at the scene after being shot with a hunting rifle. His wife, Belere Plaku, suffered critical injuries and underwent emergency surgery but later died in hospital.

Police identified the suspected gunman as the couple's former son-in-law, 35-year-old Refit Buzi. Investigators say he allegedly opened fire at the family's home before forcing his former fiancée, the couple's 24-year-old daughter, into a vehicle and fleeing the area.

A large-scale police operation, supported by RENEA special forces, surrounded the suspect near Kurjan. The woman was released unharmed, but the suspect refused repeated police orders to surrender and later died by suicide inside his vehicle, according to authorities.

Local officials have scheduled the suspect's funeral for Sunday in an effort to prevent tensions between the two families, who live in the same community and share the same cemetery.

The motive remains under investigation. Relatives of the young woman allege that she ended the relationship because of repeated abuse, harassment and death threats following their separation. Meanwhile, the suspect's family has claimed the dispute stemmed from money he had sent to his former fiancée while living in the United Kingdom, which he allegedly sought to recover after the relationship ended.

The case has left three people dead and has shocked the local community, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding one of the country's most serious recent cases of domestic violence.
