Council of Ambassadors Encourages Albanians to Participate in Serbian Elections

The Council of Ambassadors has encouraged Albanians from the area of the Presheva Valley, Bujanovc and Medvegja to participate in the early parliamentary elections in Serbia, which will be held on December 17.

The Council of Ambassadors, through a statement to the media, emphasizes that Albanians must participate in these votes to maintain representation in the Parliament of Serbia, for the awareness of local and international factors about the position of Albanians in Serbia.

"The Council of Albanian Ambassadors assesses that the development of early parliamentary elections in Serbia, on December 17, 2023, is an important moment that should be appreciated by Albanians in the Valley of Presheva, Bujanovc and Medvegja.

Discriminatory state policies by Serbian institutions are still present. Even in their visit to the Valley, the delegation of the Council of Albanian Ambassadors confirmed: the lack of development and economic perspective; the countless obstacles in the employment of Albanians in central and local institutions; non-recognition of Albanian students' diplomas; obstacles in the use of the Albanian language at all levels, in the preservation of cultural heritage, in the protection of identity and the use of national symbols; the continuation of the policy and absurd methods of deregistration and passivation of the addresses of native Albanians, etc.

Therefore, the Council of Albanian Ambassadors encourages Albanian voters in Presheva, Bujanovc and Medvegja, for the highest possible participation in these elections, with the aim of maintaining representation in the Assembly of Serbia, for the awareness of local and international factors about the position of Albanians in Serbia, insisting on the realization of the demands of Albanians and the advancement of internationally recognized legal rights for minority peoples", the press release states.
