Covid-19 Hospitalizations Surge, Albania Opens Fourth Hospital
Hospitals are nearing capacity in Albania where coronavirus has hit disproportionately hard for the small population size and cases continue to rise daily. Albania has seen hospitalizations spike in recent days, as another record was set this Monday with 491 patients hospitalized in the three Covid-19 hospitals, 32 of whom in intensive therapy and 7 were put on ventilators.
This situation forced Health Ministry to officially open the fourth Covid-19 hospital with 100 beds.
First patients were hospitalized this evening, coming from Covid-1 and Covid-3 hospitals. All of them were patients who have already passed the hardest phase of Covid-19 virus but need to stay more in hospital in order to fully recover.
Earlier this day, the situation in other hospitals were critical as six ambulances wait for hours with patients out of the hospitals doors hoping for a free bed.
After the opening of the fourth hospital, Health Ministry has other scenarios if the situation due to Covid-19 worsens.
Albaniandailynews.com has learned that it is expected to be opened other 10 hospitals in different cities.
