Covid-19, Number of Hospitalized Increases Significantly, 4 Victims

Eight months since the beginning of pandemic in Albania situation of infections continue to be stable but the number of those hospitalized increased significantly.

Eugena Tomini from the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) informed on Sunday that 149 persons have tested positive during the past 24-hours and unfortunately four have died due to the disease. 

ISHP expert informed that 963 tests were carried out in public and private clinics in the last 24 hours and 149 of them confirmed positive for COVID-19 while 139 recovered. 

Most of the cases have been registered in Tirana (104), Shkoder and Fier (6), Korce and Kruje (5), Durres and Elbasan (4) and 3 cases in Kurbin and Lezhe. 

Since the beginning of the epidemic 14,266 people have resulted positive for COVID-19. 

“We inform you that currently the Infectious Disease Hospital and the COVID2 ‘Shefqet Ndroqi’ Hospital are providing treatment to 206 patients, 20 of whom are in intensive care and 7 have been put on ventilators,” ISHP representative said. She continued that despite the efforts of the medical staff, four citizens have died. A 73-years-old man from Durresi, a 77-years-old man from Shkodra and 2 ciitizens from Tirana a 65-years-old and a 74-years-old with underlying health issues. Ministry of Health expresses condolences to their family members,” Tomini emphasized.

The coronavirus death toll in Albania has increased to 396. Presently there are 5,195 active cases across the country.
