Agriculture Minister Anila Denaj in a meeting with dairy farmers and milk processors

Dairy Farmers Agree on Price with Milk Processors

The Association of Dairy Farmers announced that it had reached an agreement with the milk processors on the price of milk and the establishment of a communication between them.

In a statement to the media, the Association announced that the agreement was reached during the meeting held on Tuesday between the parties, in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, where the minister Anila Denaj was also present.

"After a meeting held today at the Ministry of Agriculture with wide participation from both sides, processors and livestock farmers, and in the presence of the Minister, an agreement was reached with the processors on the price of milk and for a different communication between the two parties," said the statement of the Association.

It informed that in addition to the problem of the price of milk, the appropriate subsidies for livestock farmers were also discussed and a strategy was decided on which will be worked on in the future so that each livestock farmer gets what he deserves, of course being part of the formality of the sector.

"The breeders who are members of the association will hold a meeting in the following days for a detailed analysis of the protest and the situation of how this agreement will work," it is further stated. Last week, the farmers did not deliver their milk to the factories, as they did not agree with the drastic reduction in the milk price by the milk processors. They said the processors had agreed together at the same time on the same price, undermining competition in the market and harming them.

The day before, they protested at the Savra roundabout in Lushnja, spilling milk on the street.

Present at the meeting, Minister Denaj informed that the importance of cooperation based on long-term contractual relations to ensure a quality Albanian product also helps in providing a financial and fiscal support package.

She emphasized that for this package she will cooperate with livestock farmers and interest groups during the next two months. This, she emphasized, is to make it possible for this sector to expand, while the parties cooperate on well-thought-out contracts that ensure financial respect between the parties, as the "Made in Albania" product deserves. Denaj called the meeting “a qualitative step forward between actors, including the state institutions”.
