DP against Supplying Greece with 'Blue Eye' Water

Greek media have published a proposal of the mayor of the island of Corfu, George Machimaris on how to resolve the issue of water supply, for which Democrat MP Ina Zhupa has reacted harshly.

Following the article by ERT News, which reports that Machimaris has proposed water supply from the" Blue Eye" source in Saranda, Zhupa considered such an agreement as irresponsible and insane of the side of Prime Minister Edi Rama's government.

Through a Facebook post, Zhupa said that the "Blue Eye" is a natural park and has the status of a protected area since 2002. According to her, works, interventions and pipelines would be categorically prohibited and to the detriment of this cultural heritage.

"Transferring the water of the underground source of the Blue Eye to Greece, this could be the irresponsibility and the next madness of the Rama Government!

Greek media ERT NEWS shows that an agreement is being prepared between Greece and Albania to intervene in the Blue Eye in Saranda and to transfer the purified groundwater to Greece. The Mayor of North Corfu, George Machimaris has raised again the issue of water transfer from Albania: “With the sense of responsibility to our society, to our visitors, we have submitted a proposal/ technical memorandum for water supply with spring transfer from the BLUE EYE of neighboring Albania, taking into account and utilizing the experience of the submarine pipeline connecting the Aegina water supply with EYDAP in Salamis, the accumulated experience of the local government and existing studies such as that of the Polytechnic (1991).

Blue Eye is a natural park and has the status of protected area since 2002. Works, pipelines, interventions would be categorically prohibited and to the detriment of this cultural heritage. Saranda, Delvina, other cities suffer from a lack of drinking water but have never considered such an illegal intervention in the Blue Eye. How could one think that this illegal intervention was made to supply Greece", stated Zhupa.
