The General Directorate of Road Transport Service (DPSHTRR) has undertaken some changes regarding the registration of vehicles moving in Albania. 

The main innovation is related to the production of personalized license plates. It is learned that these license plates will have space for marking seven (7) letters in them and of course they will have an extra fee in addition to the standard used when registering the car. 

License plates with the smaller or square format will also be produced for those vehicles that do not have space to place the standard format license plate. Smaller license plates will also be produced for motorcycles, unlike what has been done so far. All requests from drivers of motorcycles for license plates of other formats in addition to the standard ones will be accompanied by an extra fee.

Amendments to DCM153 (Road Code Regulation) are approved by the Government. Among them, DPSHTRR brings charming innovations for steering wheel entertainers, from 2022: 

- For the first time we will have license plates with smaller dimensions, for the front, for vehicles that have space limitations! The new small license plate will have dimensions of 360 x 100 mm! The service will be with extra fee! 

- For the first time we will have a personalized license plate, up to 7 characters (numbers or letters) which for the first time will be transferable from vehicle to vehicle (carrying will also apply to optional license plates)! This service will be with extra fees! 

- For the first time we will have the American license plate format, for vehicles that do not have the necessary space for the standard format, usually for the rear license plate, with dimensions 305 x 153 mm, against the extra tariff! 

- For the first time the license plates of motorcycles will be in the new format 177 x 177 mm to fit the standard space of the manufacturer for motor vehicles! The same rates as today! 

- The completion of the Albanian fleet of road vehicles with the standard license plate of the current model is accelerated. Any road vehicle equipped with license plates before 01.03.2010 (with old model license plates), which is presented at the offices of DPSHTRR to receive a service related to the vehicle, must change the license plates of the road vehicle to the license plates of the new model) ! 

All innovations apply to all categories of civil road vehicles! 

In the following, with the publication of the changes in the Official Gazette, DPSHTRR - MEI will proceed with the regulatory acts, setting tariffs, and conducting investments and relevant IT developments that will enable the implementation of these innovations! The extra income from these services will go for the modernization of DPSHTRR as well as for special projects and programs on the automotive culture of Green, the Retro sector, the first Albanian Automotive Park and for educational activities on Road Safety!
