Earlier this day, the AFA held a press conference accusing Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj of interfering in the election of Tirana Football Association and AFA in general. AFA media director Andi Verçani published wiretappings of Tirana Mayor Veliaj in which he asks persons to vote for Eduard Prodani in the elections. “Not UEFA nor FIFA, but even Jesus and Mohamed come here, they will not stop my war. I will do everything possible to make their life difficult through the Prosecution and SPAK. Even if they wished for us to withdraw, such a thing is impossible since different institutions that have already started their work. Football is the only island we do not control yet,” said Mayor Veliaj among others while using foul language. Tirana Mayor released a statement reacting to the wiretapping. “Nobody should mess my Socialist Party affiliation to my engagement in the election process as a stakeholder of Tirana,” he commented.
SPAK Director Arben Kraja reacted to wiretappings declaring that no investigation has been launched against AFA. “Nobody can use SPAK to exercise pressure because this institution works based on documents and evidence and not opinions. Up to now we have not received any lawsuit against AFA,” Kraja said.
In the meantime, it has been announced that the Prosecution of Tirana District have launched an investigation against AFA President Armand Duka who is being accused of “Abuse of Office” and “Stealth and Abuse of Office”. This lawsuit was filed by a bailiff in November 2021, according to Prosecution’s Office.
