Durres, Two Customs Officials Arrested on Medicine Smuggling Charges
Durrës Police has finalized Thursday the operation codenamed "Porosia", to crack down on smuggling of medical drugs, in the framework of which were arrested 4 people, 2 of them customs officers.
After receiving information that some citizens were transporting medical drugs and other illegal items, without the relevant documentation, they were arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offenses "Smuggling of other goods", "Smuggling of licensed goods" and "Trade and transportation of goods that are smuggled ”.
Citizens were handcuffed: Granit Kerxhaliu, 35 years old, resident in Kukës and Behar Lleshi, 57 years old, born in Kosovo and resident in London.
Also, the Police services have stopped in the neighborhood no.13, Durrës, a van type "Mercedes Benz", driven by the citizen GK and owner citizen B. Ll., Where during the control in this vehicle were found and seized as evidence materials a quantity of various medical medications, security cameras and Rapid Antigen Test.
Following the investigative actions, the specialists for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crimes arrested in flagrante delicto the citizens Artan Topuzi, 58 years old and Enkel Shehi, 52 years old, on duty, both residents of Durrës. These citizens are suspected of abusing their duty by not carrying out a detailed inspection of the vehicle where the smuggled goods were found.
Meanwhile, the materials were forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office of the Durrës Judicial District, for further action.
