EU Believes Kosovo Deserves Visa Liberalisation
European Union Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and other regional issues of the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, has underlined that Kosovo deserves the liberalisation of visas as it has completed the criteria, but all 27 EU member countries must give their consent.
After his visit to Kosovo together with the United States Representative for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, Lajcak said that their visit to Kosovo has been very productive.
Moreover, he stressed that Kosovo has implemented most of the agreements signed in the dialogue, but that according to him, there are some that have not been implemented, among which he mentioned the association.
"We emphasize that we do not want a second republic in Kosovo and they should agree on what they agreed on in Brussels and they should also do much more. The association is one of them. My advice is that they should not be afraid should have self-confidence and in this process are equal partners.
There is no reason to be afraid of a process that is being run in the same way as Serbia. The European Union wants to make it clear that it is up to Kosovo and Serbia to decide what kind of relationship they want to have. The dialogue is not about Kosovo's status but about negotiating an agreement on relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kosovo deserves visa liberalization. The European Commission has clearly said that Kosovo has met the conditions, but this requires the consensus of 27 countries. I really hope it will not take long until visa liberalization", has stated the European Union Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
