Ex-PM Warns 'Dangerous Collapse' due to Govt's Luxury Spending

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has warned on Friday that the economic situation in Albania could lead to a dangerous collapse as "luxury" spending by the government has not been cut to go to help citizens who are most in need due to rising prices .

In a press conference, Berisha called on foreign institutions to intervene urgently to bring the debt of this "irresponsible government" under control.

"Rama's control with a handful of businessmen has created boards to remove his responsibilities to legitimize completely unmotivated price increases.

To wash their hands of any kind of help for citizens who are heading towards major shortages in food and medicine.

I call on (foreign) institutions to intervene urgently for the debt of this irresponsible government.

Debts and liabilities of this government have reached 107% and there is no restriction on luxury spending, abusive spending of government officials, only for festivities, from the reserve fund of the Council of Ministers have been taken 700 million ALL, so 7 million euros have been given the Ministry of Culture of the Municipality of Tirana at the height of the crisis, at the peak of rising prices.

The time has come for them to land and reconsider leaving the items and taking full scrutiny of the IMF financial situation.

Otherwise, Albania is moving safely towards a dangerous economic collapse with major problems in the near future", declared Berisha.
