Export Structure Changes, Goods Decrease

Exports of goods in 2023 were as much as 8.6% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), marking a decrease from the level of 10.8% of GDP in 2022.

On the other hand, exports of services reached 31% of GDP in 2023 from 26.6% that were in 2022, according to Eurostat data.

From 2020, exports of services have experienced a rapid growth of 15% of GDP, while exports of goods have increased by only 2.6% of GDP, as they are in a downward trend.

Exports of services are being boosted by developments in the tourism sector. After the pandemic, Albania became a favorite destination for foreigners, encouraging the increase of foreign currency entry in the market by providing tourist services.

According to Eurostat, Albania is ranked among the five countries in Europe with the lowest contribution of the export of goods about GDP, while it is ranked in the group of six countries where the export of services has a high contribution in % of GDP.

According to official data in 2023, it turns out that the income from tourism reached the value of Lek 4.2 billion, with an increase of 48% compared to 2022. On the other hand, in 2023, exports of goods are Lek 440 billion, decreasing 9.5% compared to 2022.
