First Afghans to Arrive in Kosovo Today

The group of Afghan citizens who will be temporarily accommodated in Kosovo is expected to arrive on Saturday at 19 am at Pristina Airport. 

A little more than 100 people will come with the first plane. Authorities have not yet announced any additional information on their shelter but have announced that they will accommodate about 2,000 Afghan citizens. 

The Government of Kosovo has approved the request "On providing temporary and immediate protection to persons endangered by internal conflict in Afghanistan, which are in the process of applying for special immigration visas (SIV) - of the United States of America, including their families. " 

The United States sought Kosovo and Albania to accept a number of Afghans who worked with US forces who feel afraid of the revenge of the Taliban, who took control of the country after the withdrawal of foreign troops. 

Albania on the other hand has sheltered until now 275 Afghans, who came with three flights. The first with 121 passengers landed in Rinas in the early hours of Friday and were sheltered in hotels in Durres. The second landed on Friday around 23:00 and the third landed around 03:00 this Saturday, respectively with 95 and 59 passengers each. They were sheltered at Student City dormitories.
