Flooding in Durres, DP to Sue at SPAK, Mayor and Vice PM Balluku
The Democratic Party blames the government and local administration for the flooding in Durres city of Albania.
In a press statement this Sunday, this party said that over 500 families are out of their houses any time that rains engulf Durresi due to flooding.
That is the reason, why this party warned to sue at the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) the mayor of Durresit, Emirjana Sako and the vice Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku for abuse of duty and bad managment of the public funds.
"The Democratic Party considers the situation created on January 30, 2025 to be scandalous, where as a result of mismanagement and institutional irresponsibility, including the rampant corruption not only of this municipality but of all municipalities in the country, hundreds of families are suffering extraordinary economic consequences.
The drainage canals in Durrës and the municipalities of Ishëm, Manëz, Katund i Ri, Rrashbull, the former Kënetë, Spitallë and Sukth still remain blocked even today. The hydropower plant failed, as out of 9 functional pumps, only 4 were working, although 20 million dollars were received from reconstruction funds. The misuse and plunder of public funds are the truth of the Durrës flood," said DP.
