Former Officer Linked to Martinaj Appeals Prison Sentence

Former officer Jeton Lami has appealed the court's decision that sentenced him to 2 years and 10 months in prison. Jeton Lami was accompanying the gambling boss Ervis Martinaj before he disappeared.

In January 2023, the court of Lezha sentenced the former policeman to 2 years and 10 months in prison. Due to the shortened trial, Jeton Lami has 1/3 of his sentence reduced.

Jeton Lami was arrested after the disappearance of the much-wanted Ervis Martinaj in August 2022, after his family raised the alarm that they had lost track of the businessman.

Jeton Lami has broken the silence by giving some detailed explanations regarding Ervis Martinaj's company, but said he didn't know about his disappearance.

He has stated that he knew Martinaj 10 years ago, but emphasizes that he had no friendship or close relationship.

"I knew Ervis Martinaj 10 years ago. I didn't have any friendship or close relationship with him. However, three days before accompanying him to Durrës, I met him by chance at a place in Zogu i Zi. He asked me to accompany him.

I accompanied him in the direction of Durrës and sent him to a hotel where he met a friend of his. The next day I went to Durrës again, I took Ervis Martinaj and his friend and left them in a place near a gas station in the Vora area.

There, according to the information I had, Ervis Martinaj would have several meetings. At that moment I left and I have no idea what happened to him", Jeton Lami declared for the prosecutor.
