Head of Saranda Police Suspended after Death of Italian Tourists

After the accident that caused the death of Italian tourists on the Sarandë - Ksamil road, the General Director of the State Police reacted, suspending the head of the Traffic Police Section at the Sarandë Police Station. 

Also, the General Director of the State Police has ordered the establishment of a special group, with specialists from the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Department for Public Safety (Directorate of Traffic Police) in the General Directorate of the State Police, to analyse the case, to take responsibility for the cause of this accident.

"The General Director of the State Police has ordered the establishment of a special group, with specialists from the Directorate of Professional Standards and from the Department for Public Safety (Directorate of Traffic Police) in the General Directorate of the State Police, to analyse the case, for to issue responsibilities regarding the cause of this accident, as well as for the overall management of road traffic in the territory of the municipality of Saranda. 

Meanwhile, the Head of the Traffic Police Section at the Sarandë Police Station, Deputy Commissioner A. Sh., was immediately suspended from his post. His suspension was made pursuant to Article 209, of the State Police Regulation, for a serious violation of the attributes/competencies of the Police, in relation to the consequences of the accident that occurred in the early hours of this morning, on the road axis " Sarandë - Ksamil", where 2 Italian tourists lost their lives, namely citizens D. D., 24 years old and V. T., 32 years old. 

Also, the administrative-disciplinary investigation for the entire chain of command of the Road Police Sector in the Local Police Directorate of Vlora, for non-fulfillment of standard work procedures, regarding taking measures to prevent road accidents, during the tourist season, has started immediately. 

The State Police is maximally engaged, 24/7, in the entire territory of the country, to guarantee order and public safety, as well as to prevent road accidents. In this context, it invites citizens to report any violation of traffic rules and any illegality as a whole, guaranteeing complete anonymity, immediate and professional response," it is said in the statement.
