High Court Announces 9 Candidates for Three Vacancies in C.Court

The High Court through an official press release, has provided information regarding the 3 vacancies for the Constitutional Court.

According to the High Court, 9 candidacies have been submitted to run for these positions, while the documentation will be evaluated by the Judicial Appointments Council.

“Deputy Chairman of the High Court, based on article 125, point 1 of the Constitution and article 7 / ç of law no. 8577, dated 10.02.2000, "On the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania", as amended, on 03.06.2021 has made a public announcement for filling 3 vacancies in the Constitutional Court to be filled by the High Court, like below:

1. In the vacancy created after the departure of Mrs. Vitore Tusha (whose full 9-year term ended in 2017), the new judge will be elected, to remain in office until March 2025;

2. In the vacancy created after the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha (whose full 9-year term ended in 2020), the new judge will be elected, to remain in office until June 2028;

3. In the vacancy created after the departure of Mr. Gani Dizdari (whose full 9-year term ended in 2022), will be elected the new judge, to remain in office until March 2022.

After the expiration of the 30-day deadline for receiving applications from candidates, the following candidates have applied to compete in the three vacant positions for judges of the Constitutional Court:

1. Albert Demirneli (for the vacancy created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha);

2. Alket Jaupi (for the vacancy created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha);

3. Dhimitrula Spiro (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha and Mrs. Vitore Tusha);

4. Ervin Karamuço (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha, Mrs. Vitore Tusha and Mr. Gani Dizdari);

5. Helena Papa (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha and Ms. Vitore Tusha);

6. Saimir Visha (without specification for which of the vacancies);

7. Sander Beci (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha and Ms. Vitore Tusha);

8. Vata Staka (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha and Mrs. Vitore Tusha);

9. Zhaklina Peto (for vacancies created by the departure of Mr. Fatmir Hoxha and Ms. Vitore Tusha).

Based on article 7 / ç, point 1 of law no. 8577/2000 "On the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court", as amended, the list of candidates, as well as the documentation submitted by them, were sent to the Judicial Appointments Council for evaluation of the conditions and criteria for the appointment of judges to the Constitutional Court,” it is written in the announcement.
