Italy’s Harsher Covid-19 Measures Towards Albania Enter into Force

Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has announced that the Italian government has tightened restrictive measures, which are effective as of this Tuesday, so as to cope with the epidemiological emergency situation caused by Covid-19 by allowing only certain categories with specific specifications to travel across the Adriatic.

Starting from today, from Albania to Italy can travel individuals for certain reasons such as: work, health, study, urgency, persons returning to their country of residence, close relatives of Albanian citizens provided with a regular residence permit in Italy, persons who have a proven and enduring emotional relationship with citizens who are resident in Italy, athlete, technician and competition judge and escort who participate in Olympic, Paralympic certified sports activities and national interest.

Also, citizens who travel from Albania to Italy, regardless of citizenship and who have stayed there for more than 120 hours, will be subjected to a 10-day isolation, at the end of which they will perform a molecular or antigenic test.

There are certain conditions for the categories of persons who can travel; presentation of "Passenger Locator Form" in digital format or in hard copy, presentation of test with negative molecular or antigenic result, performed 72 hours before the trip, citizens are subject to isolation in good faith for 10 days at the address stated in the Passenger Locator Form and undergo molecular or antigen testing at the end of isolation. These measures are valid until December 15, 2021

From August until yesterday, anyone could travel to Italy only by showing the vaccination certificate or a PCR test. But with today's decision, no Albanian will be able to enter Italy from Albania without a specific reason.
