Monday, 18 April 2022 marks an important milestone in the friendly relations between Japan and Albania as we celebrate 100 years of friendship. On this day, a century ago Mr. Uchida Kosai, then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan exchanged letters with the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania Mr. Fan Noli recognizing de jure and de facto the government of Albania.

The Year 2022 also marks the 41st anniversary of the official establishment of Diplomatic Relations between our two countries. Furthermore, this year, we commemorate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Embassy of Japan in Albania.

This moment of celebration takes place during challenging times for the international community. Over the last century, both countries have faced formidable political, social, and economic challenges that have managed to overcome through unwavering determination. This century of friendly relations has seen progressive growth and increased exchanges between the two countries. Japan and Albania value the strong and long-lasting bonds of friendship and cooperation.

Today, Japan and Albania share several priorities, ranging from fighting climate change to the digital transformation of their societies while promoting values such as human rights, solidarity, and convergence. There are multiple areas of common interest where both countries have established a solid basis for collaboration such as health and social care, disaster prevention, and environmental protection. Both countries are keen to further develop shared interests by increasing cultural exchanges, particularly in the area of tourism, and deepening economic and trade cooperation.

To celebrate this 100th anniversary, the Embassy of Japan wants to introduce a logo, which will be used to promote a multitude of special events that will take place in Albania and in Japan throughout the year dedicated to our bilateral relations.

In this spirit, the Embassy of Japan invites our Albanian friends to join us as we celebrate to a century of friendly ties, looking at what Japan and Albania have accomplished together, and what more we can do in the next 100 years.
