Judge Mimoza Margjeka, who was accused of corruption, has been sentenced this Thursday to prison by decision of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO). 

Special Court sentenced the judge to 4 years and 6 months in prison, but she will be free, because the sentence is converted into the repayment of 3 consecutive years of probation service. 

Her husband Arben Cara was sentenced to 4 years in prison, while lawyer Skënder Demiraj was sentenced to 3 years of probation, and citizen Klaudio Zhilla was sentenced to 3 years in prison. 

Nevertheless, Judge Margjeka was arrested by the State Police in cooperation with SPAK in September 2020. 

During the operation to capture the Durrës judge, three lawyers accused of corruption were also handcuffed. 

According to SPAK's investigations, it turns out that the husband of Mimoza Margjeka took a bribe of 6.000 EUR to change a decision. 

This amount of money was given in order to change the security measure, from "prison arrest" to "property guarantee", for the citizen Orion Bali, arrested for smuggling. 

Mimoza Margjeka and her husband Arben Cara are accused of committing the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors and other officials of the justice bodies", in cooperation. 

The other arrested, together with the judge, are Nejton Bali, Klaudjo Zhilla, Skënder Demiraj, who in cooperation with each other committed the criminal offense of "Active corruption of the judge, prosecutor and other justice officials", giving the judge Mimoza Margjeka , through her husband, Arben Cara, an amount of 6.000 EUR, as an illegal benefit. 

"Judge M. M., abusing her duty, against the benefit of 6,000 euros, changed the security measure in the Court of Appeal Korçë for the arrested O. B., arrested for the criminal offense of "Giving assistance for illegal border crossing", from "Arrest in prison" on property guarantee of 500,000 ALL. 

Citizen N.B., resident in Sauk, the brother of the arrested person, had agreed as a defense lawyer for his brother, citizen O.B., lawyer S.D., of the Tirana Bar Association, who with his acquaintance with the husband of the judge, influenced against the above amount that the judge to change the security measure. 

K.ZH., on the basis of his acquaintance with the lawyer and the husband of the judge, mediated the meetings between the judge, the lawyer and the realtor in the premises of his hotel in Korça, the place where they handed over the amount of euros to the husband of the judge, giving promised that the wife would change the security measure from "Arrest in prison" to property guarantee, a measure which was decided by the Court of Appeal for the arrested O. B", said the police announcement regarding the arrest of judge's husband.
