Kosovo's Politics Divided over Handling of Tensions in the North

Direct involvement of the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in the situation in the north and the release of the three policemen kidnapped by the Serbian forces is being seen as a good opportunity to de-escalate the situation in the north.

In the Democratic Party of Kosovo and familiar with the dialogue process, they emphasize the need to find a solution to the crisis in the north of Kosovo within the framework of the demands of the international allies.

However, the ruling party, the Vetëvendosje Movement, emphasizes that first the rule of law in the north is necessary, then the organization of early elections.

He criticized Prime Minister Albin Kurti for damaging Kosovo through what he calls his adventures in the north.

Need for de-escalation of the situation in the north is emphasized by Visar Xani, an expert on the dialogue process.

According to him, local institutions should use Secretary Blinken's involvement to de-escalate the situation in the north, as an opportunity to return American support.

On the other hand, the LVV deputy, Adnan Rrustemi, tells KosovaPress that within the EU's three-point plan for the de-escalation of the north, two of the demands are from Serbia.

Beqa added that Kosovo has accepted the request for new elections in the north, but always within the framework of the laws and the Constitution of Kosovo.

He emphasized that first of all there must be rule of law in the north and the removal of criminal groups from the facilities of the municipalities in the north.
