A powerful fire that is thought to have been deliberately set by a resident suffering from mental problems has engulfed the entire hilly area filled with olives in the village of Vërtop in Poliçan on Monday.

Local media reported that the flames initially started in the area above the houses of the village of Vërtop, but favored by the wind, they spread rapidly towards the hilly site, burning so far tens of hectares of olive trees.

To make things worse, due to the steep hilly area, it is difficult for vehicles to enter the area and the extinguishing of flames is being carried out by circumstantial tools by firefighters and the residents of the area.

However, the fire is advancing rapidly at the back of the hill as the action to extinguish it seems difficult due to the darkness.
