New Leskovik-Erseka Road Cuts Travel Time
The new Leskovik-Erseka road has shortened the travel time from 3 hours to just 1 hour and a half. The delegation of the European Union in Tirana emphasized on Wednesday that this road, financed by the European Union and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, helps to increase tourism in the southeast area of ??Albania.
"This road that used to take the residents who live here 3 hours to go to Leskovik has now been paved in 1 and a half hours. This saving of 1 and a half hours makes it very possible and easier to connect and bring these villages closer to the rest of Albania," said Hubert Perr, Head of Cooperation in the EU Delegation.
In a meeting with the mayor of Erseka, Erion Isai, the impact of the road on the daily life of the residents of the area, as well as its effect on tourism and business, was discussed.
This road shortens travel distances and is another window for the development of tourism in Albania. The road is 42.67 kilometers long, the width of the existing asphalt was about 4 meters, while the new asphalt is 5 meters along the entire length of the road.
The reconstruction of the Leskovik-Erseka road aims to improve the connection between the regions and facilitate mobility towards the tourist potentials of the region of Korça and Gjirokastra, bringing the expansion of the region's tourist offer and increasing the opportunities for sustainable regional economic development.
The reconstruction project improves the quality and safety of road traffic while maintaining the existing road footprint.
