The National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority (AKVMB) announced that, following analyses conducted by the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute, the presence of the Avian Influenza (H5N1) virus has been confirmed in a family farm that keeps chickens and turkeys in Zall Herr.
As soon as the official confirmation was received, the authorities took urgent measures to control the area.
Specialists inspected the affected area establishing immediate measures to eliminate infected birds and eradicate the virus. The area has been placed in quarantine, while protection and surveillance perimeters have been established to prevent further spread.
This is the second confirmed outbreak in Tirana after the first outbreak a few weeks ago in a family farm in Mëzez. Even then, the authorities reacted to limit the spread of the virus, taking strict protection measures.
