New Parliament of Montenegro Constituted
Mandates of 81 MPs from the extraordinary parliamentary elections of June 11 were verified in the session of Montenegro's parliament on Thursday, but the new Speaker was not elected.
Chairman of the State Election Commission, Nikola Mugosha, presented to the parliament the report of the results of the extraordinary parliamentary elections and read the names of the MPs of the new composition of the Parliament of Montenegro.
However, the election of the speaker was postponed for a new session of the parliament as no proposal for the possible candidate for the speaker was submitted in the service of the parliament.
This is a consequence of the late announcement of the final results of the elections, for which the "Europe Now" Movement and the potential candidate for Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajic, officially started on Thursday, July 20, the talks for the new government, which will continue even in the following days.
Leadership of the Europe Now Movement has approved 10 principles for the formation of the 44th Government of Montenegro, which have been sent to potential partners in the next government, except for the Democratic Socialist Party of former president Milo Djukanovi? and the Prime Minister's URA Movement in leave Dritan Abazovi?, who the Europe Now Movement does not want to be part of the new government.
President Jakov Milatovic has said that on Monday in Cetina he will begin consultations with representatives of political parties for the candidate for the new Prime Minister of Montenegro.
"I have 30 days for consultation. I think I will officially finish it in about fifteen days. There is enough time to reach an agreement", Milatovic told reporters after the meeting of the Parliament of Montenegro.
The European Union has called on political actors in Montenegro to form the new parliament and government as soon as possible, where, as they said, "they will be able to promote reforms related to EU membership as soon as possible." Possible".
On June 11, parliamentary elections were held in Montenegro, which were assessed as free and without any irregularities highlighted by local and international observers.
The Europe Now movement, formed last year, won the largest number of votes, 24 seats in parliament followed by the coalition led by the Democratic Party of Socialists of former Montenegrin president Milo Djukanovic, whose party held power over 30 years in Montenegro.
Montenegro was considered the leader of the region in the process of joining the European Union and has opened all the chapters in the negotiations for membership. However, as a result of the political and institutional crisis, there has been no intergovernmental conference since December 2021 due to insufficient progress in the reforms necessary for the accession process.
According to the forecasts of the Europe Now Movement, the new government should have 22 ministries and departments and four vice presidents.
