New UK Minister of Education Points Middle Finger to Protesters

The resignation of Boris Johnson caused strong reactions in Britain. The "icing on the cake" came from the new minister, Andrea Jenkins, who angered the protesters with her gesture.

She pointed her middle finger at protesters as she entered Downing Street on Thursday, July 7. Jenkins will take over the Ministry of Education within the next few days. Along with the gesture, the minister addressed the crowd: "Wait and see" and then told them: "Laugh well, who laughs last."

After the uproar she caused, on July 9, she apologized in a statement today and clarified that she had reached the limits after receiving death threats and that she was trying to defend herself.

"I've been verbally abused by some of the people who have been there, and I've also received seven death threats in the last four years."

"I answered and defended myself. Why should anyone put up with this kind of treatment? I should have shown more composure, but I'm human", she said.
