Parliament Sets Voting Date for Report on President’s Dismissal

The Parliament will convene in plenary session on Wednesday (June 9th) to vote on the report on the dismissal of President of the Republic, Ilir Meta.

The decision was made this Monday by the Chairmen Conference. On Friday, the Inquiry Committee approved the report compiled with what they called as violations committed by the Head of State.

Regarding the issue, 49 deputies of the Socialist Party demand the dismissal of President Meta for violation of the Constitution during the election campaign.

To dismiss the Head of State, the majority, according to Article 88 of the Constitution, must receive not less than 94 votes or 2/3 of all deputies.

If the Parliament votes in favour of the dismissal of President Meta, it is ultimately the Constitutional Court that decides whether the findings of the Parliament, for violation of the Constitution by Ilir Meta, are valid or not.

“The Chairmen Conference set the date for voting on the request for dismissal of the President of the Republic.

Under the direction of the President of the Parliament, Mr. Gramoz Ruçi, the meeting of the Conference took place.

The conference decided that the plenary session to review the request of a group of deputies for the dismissal of the President of the Republic, to be held on June 9, on Wednesday, at 10:00,” it is written in the Parliament announcement.
