Parliament Speaker Receives Diaspora Council Members

The Speaker of the Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, received this Monday the Chairman of the Diaspora Coordinating Council, Mark Gjonaj, and the members of the Council, Anila Smorgrav, Brikena Muharremi, Rosario Petta and Lazim Destani. 

Chairman Mark Gjonaj and members of the Council informed Chairman Nikola about the activity of the Diaspora Coordinating Council for the coordination of the activity of the communities of Albanian immigrants from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and other Albanian countries as well as their cooperation with the mother country. 

Regarding the cooperation with the Government and the Albanian institutions, Gjonaj and the members of the Council pointed out the cooperation in the economic field, the attraction of investments from the Diaspora, the cooperation in the field of education and science as well as the realization of the right to vote of the Diaspora from the countries where they live. 

The Speaker of the Parliament, Lindita Nikolla, appreciated the contribution of the Diaspora Coordinating Council in cooperation with Albania, as well as the contribution of the Diaspora as a factor and resource for the country's development. The financial, social and human capitals of the Albanian Diaspora, early and new, are an important source for the development of Albania. The diaspora is a vital part of societies in host countries, with recognized and valued contributions to economic development, welfare systems, and science and culture in these countries. Regarding the issue of the Diaspora's right to vote, Speaker Nikolla pointed out that the Assembly is waiting for the clarification of the decision of the Constitutional Court in order to take the necessary legal steps to guarantee this right. At the same time, Nikolla invited and assured the members of the Diaspora Coordinating Council for close cooperation with the Parliament and the institutions, not only for the voting legislation, but also for other aspects of the country's development.
