President Asks Law Enforcement Over 10 Questions on Elbasan Event

President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has asked Friday Albanian law enforcement bodies 11 questions regarding the Elbasan event, where Pjerin Xhuvani was murdered by Arber Papleka, a former officer of the RENEA forces.

The Head of State demands answers on whether people with criminal past were involved in the incident, what their names are and why the police has not remanded them in custody yet.

Among other things, President Meta wants to know if the Special Prosecution against Organized Crime and Corruption (SPAK) must launch investigations, since senior state officials and Members of Parliament might have been involved in the unfortunate event.

Full questions asked by President of Albania below:

- Are persons with criminal records involved in this event? If so, what are their names as perpetrators suspected of causing it? Why did the State Police not detain and accompany them?

- Are these people involved in this event, the same ones who accompanied the Prime Minister on March 14, "Summer Day", and who used violence against opposition supporters?

- Has the Prosecution and the State Police received the testimony of senior officers and police officers who were present at the event?

- Why did the police officers present at the event not react, to neutralize the gunfight and stop all the persons involved?

- Why was allowed the leaving of persons involved from the crime scene when the Police was notified and was there?

- Was the public or private premises covered with security cameras? If so, was the immediate examination and seizure of the footage material made as evidence?

- How long did it take the law enforcement agencies to collect these footage materials?

- If there have been delays, who are responsible? Have you been given time to delete the images?

- Are such delays an indicator of intentional inaction by special structures within the State Police, to give time to the responsible persons to eliminate any evidence that makes it possible to clarify the true dynamics of the event and the responsibility of each the individual involved in this tragic conflict?

- Is the Prosecution of the Elbasan Judicial District, in conflict of interest, to conduct these investigations?

- Should the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) start investigations, as senior state officials and MPs may be involved in this event?
