President Meta Welcomes EP Draft Resolution on Albania

President of the Republic, Ilir Meta hailed Thursday the draft resolution on Albania’s integration process that was voted by the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament (EP).

In his reaction, the Head of State underlined that there are no accession negotiations without free and fair elections as he expressed gratitude to the two big political groups for supporting his country’s European future.

Albanians will protect the free vote of April 25 at any cost and will not spare towards anyone who dares to alter the plebiscite will, added President Meta while emphasizing that no progress can be made without the punishment of the ones who have committed the electoral crimes of files 339 and 184.

“I greet the Draft Resolution on Albania, which was approved today in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

I thank both major political groups for the clear support of Albania's European future, which passes only through the full fulfillment of the conditions.

There are no negotiations without free and fair elections! There is no progress without punishing the perpetrators of election crimes of files 339 and 184! No one will be amnestied!

The Albanians will defend the free vote of April 25 at any cost and will not spare themselves towards anyone who dares to alienate the plebiscite will”, underlined President of Albania.

However, the draft resolution on Albania’s integration stresses that the general elections of 25 April 2021 will be key for the consolidation and renewal of the country’s democratic procedures  and structures and to achieve a  higher level of political stability and underlines  that  free  and  fair elections are fundamental for EU integration.
