Pristina Citizens in Protest after Rape of Minor Girl
The civil society has protested this Wednesday in Pristina against the rape of the 11-year-old girl by five people - this in order to seek justice so that the perpetrators receive the deserved punishment.
The protest to seek justice for the case of the rape of the 11-year-old girl continued in front of the Ministry of Justice, besides in the squares of Pristina. Red paint has been thrown at the Ministry of Justice, as a sign of protest.
The protest is organized by the Collective for Feminist Thought and Action and started in "Zahir Pajaziti" Square.
A few days ago, an 11-year-old girl was raped in Pristina by five people. The Kosovo police have managed to arrest all five suspects, while four of them have been sentenced to 30 days of detention. Of the five arrested, three are minors.
Under chants "The victim is not to blame", "protection for the victims", "Why don't you care", "Imprisonment for life" the protestors, after shooting red paint at the Ministry of Justice and the State Prosecutor's Office, have also done the same in the building of the Judicial Council of Kosovo.
Another protest was held on Tuesday with the same goal. As a result of this event, the director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, resigned on Tuesday.
Calling it a "moral act", the resignation was accepted by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who on Monday also strongly condemned the rape of the 11-year-old.
In the same way, other politicians in power, then actors of civil society, academia and journalism, as well as citizens had reactions on social networks to oppose violence against women and children.
